Poem From Burundi

Monday morning By Esperance Amani

I woke up early in the morning as usual
Took a shower and after breakfast
Didn’t think about transport ’cause my feet were faster
Soon after a call, my classmate
Asking if I’m going to school or on date
Thought it was a joke because things now are serious
I hear noise of guns and grenades
I can’t go to school ‘cause of demonstrations
I can’t do anything during this dangerous situation
I sometimes think about my future
And don’t see how I can make my great signature
I sometimes have an upset mind on my nature
But don’t see how I can save each creature

One day, two days…now it’s the third week without going to school
How can I rest, how can I eat, how can I sleep, how can I live?
Got nothing to do
But found refuge in poetry
No, I cannot rest
No, I cannot sleep while other children in the world are studying
Which is not the case for me
No, I cannot rest
No, I cannot sleep
while I cannot see my future
Without my last year, who am I going to become?
What about my life?
What about my diploma?
What about my future?
I sometimes think about my future
And don’t see how I can make my great signature
I sometimes have an upset mind on my nature
But don’t see how I can save each creature

No security, no tranquility
My name is Amani, which means peace.
I wish to study in peace
I wish to share my peace with each country but its impossible
To see youth without hope, I’m not comfortable
I sometimes think if I had… then I could…
or if I were… then I could…
My heart is full of anger
What can I help, when I can’t help myself
What can I do for my generation
Just cry and write about the feeling of a broken heart
Hope God will make a way………
