Jose Gonzales
Jose Gonzales, Chair
Hello everyone, my name is Jose Gonzales, and I am the Pastoral Council
chair for this year. I am deeply honored to have been called to serve you in
this office, and I hope and pray that I may serve you all well in this
capacity.
I have been a member of the community for a long time. My wife and I joined
the community soon after I graduated from UCSD (with a bachelor's degree in
Biochemistry/Cell Biology). We have seen a lot of changes in this community
in that time, from a change from our founding fathers the Paulists to our
wonderful Dominican pastors, and from our old haunts in the Lutheran chapel
across the street from Revell College, to our current digs here at Good
Samaritan. Through it all, we know that we have found our permanent
spiritual home here.
I have been married to my beautiful wife Joyce for 19 years. We have 3
wonderful children, Stephen (16), Rachel (10) and Jonah (8). My family is
the center of my life. Here in this community, my children are being raised
with the values and beliefs that I want them to learn; a deep and abiding
faith in God, an open mind and a welcoming heart to any and every one, and
service to others.
I've been in the choir for most of my time here, and many of you will
recognize me as one of the faces in the tenor section at the 12:30 mass. But
in all my years in the choir, I've never enjoyed singing as much as I do
these days, with Julie Marner at the helm. More than anyone else, she has
taught me that music ministry is indeed a ministry, and its offering is an
expression of God's love for us.
I joined the Pastoral Council because I wanted to reach out beyond my
comfort zone, to meet other people and to become more involved in the life
of the community. I hope that others will also be inspired to go beyond
their boundaries and become more involved, and realize not only that they
have gifts which they can offer to God in service of others, but that in
their sharing, they will receive so much more from the bounty that God gives
us.
