Maureen Nichols

I have been a member of the Catholic Community since my husband Joe and I moved to San
Diego from Washington. D.C 7 years ago. This community has become an important part of my
spiritual and social life. I have served on the Social Justice committee for the past 5
years and I am a Eucharistic minister, Minister of Community and Lector.
I am a speech pathologist and worked at Gallaudet University for the Deaf in D.C. for 19
years. I also worked in San Diego Unified School District’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing
program for two years before retiring in 2003.
I have 3 grown sons and two grandchildren. My leisure activities include teaching cooking to
blind adults at the Braile Institute, tutoring UCSD foreign students and visiting scholars
in spoken English and taking classes at UCSD’s Oshers Institute for Continuing Learning. I
also enjoy Yoga, working out at the “Y”, reading, politics, and art. Traveling is another
passion. This year we have visited Hawaii, Portugal, France, and visited our sons in San
Francisco and Washington D.C. several times.
As a member of the Pastoral Council I hope to work toward keeping the community vital and
relevant.
