Odette Filloux
Odette Filloux
My name is Odette Filloux and in spite of my French accent I have lived in San Diego since 1958. My husband Jean had come to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography for graduate studies; after their completion we elected to stay here and raise our four children, Francis, Catherine , Dominique and Marianne, in this ideal place where children, in those days, were afforded the time and luxury to play out of doors without much supervision. I taught French at The Bishop's School in La Jolla and when UCSD opened I first taught as a tutor in the Linguistics Department and then as a lecturer in the Literature Department. I loved teaching and being involved with students, and to this day I remain deeply interested in the spoken and written "word" in all of its rich variations.
From the very beginning we joined the Catholic Community at UCSD and it became not only a very important part of our lives, but an essential one. It has remained so to this day.
Though it might be quite late for me to join the Pastoral Council I felt prompted to do so and I hope to be able to adequately represent the Resident Community and involve myself as much as possible when I can be of help. I believe that the long view that I will be bringing might contribute to making of our Pastoral Council a truly "integrated" one where age (at both end of the spectrum) does not define the person and where what matters is passion, openness and companionship.
