Greetings! I’m Vic Zampa, a member of our resident community. My wife, Sylvia, and I were introduced to the UCSD Catholic Community eighteen years ago by one of our daughters and we instantly realized that we had found our spiritual home. We felt a warm welcome and we deeply appreciated the participatory style of celebrating the eucharist, the meaningful homilies and the stimulating evenings of the Burke lectures. We kept in touch with the community during a seven-year, work-related absence in the 90’s and were happy to return in the year 2000.
It’s been an uplifting experience for me to sing with our choir and to be involved in various events and programs that promote good fellowship among us. A few years ago, when our Episcopalian hosts invited us to jointly explore the expansion of facilities at our current site, I worked with the Newman Center committee and our Episcopalian brethren to develop a program and cost parameters as a planning tool for all parties conccrned, including the archdiocese. This year, I’ll be serving for the first time on the pastoral council.
I feel fortunate to be able to work with such a devoted and diverse group of people in a ministry which so deeply touches the lives of young students and professionals and is, I believe, critical to the future of our Church. I eagerly look forward to continue sharing our faith journey, to help strengthen the bonds of friendship and mutual support within our community and to offer a welcoming hand to others. I ask you, in turn, to let me know about topics you’d like to see discussed by the patoral council and to suggest actions we might consider in furthering our common mission.
