Alejandra Vazquez, Student Minister, Social Justice

Hola! I am Alejandra Vazquez, a 4th year Mechanical Engineering student who loves life and most of all loves to help others. A little about my background: My parents emigrated from Mexico in search of a better future in the United States. Throughout my life, I’ve always prioritized my academics and known that I wanted to be a great leader like Mother Theresa, and Cesar Chavez.

As many of us, I am the first in my family to attend college. A family of eight, my family and I have endured many struggles, poverty and the near death of my little sister. These past experiences have shown me how wonderful God is because in the midst of all he strengthened my family and I and he has taken us out victoriously of every bad situation.

Because of my gratitude towards God and his great love, my hope is to truly become light of the world so that others may find God and receive his amazing grace.

At UCSD, I have served as the president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and am a member of Tau Beta Pi, a premier engineering honor society. Because of my passion to encourage others and open doors for people, this year I chose to say yes to the call to be a student minister as Co-chair of the Social Justice Committee. I want to give back to others the gifts and blessings I have received from God and help others grow as well. It is my hope that the SJ committee will cover new paths and like never before bring light and hope to our ill communities.

I offer my help to all of you!
