Ayra Maggay, Student Minister, Outreach

My most frequented activities: smiling, hugging, and laughing =). And I'm told my hugs are pretty amazing. Not to brag or anything.

Welcome to the Newman Center! I hope you'll find in this community everything that I have found here in the past four years -- a place for growth and learning, an escape to sanity when the burdens of school and work become too much, and a welcoming community of residents and students that are sure to become your second family. I am thankful that I have the opportunity now to give back to this amazing community, and I'm more than excited to meet YOU and help you find what you are looking for.

...my major is Bioengineering, and I'm much more comfortable with numbers and bullet points. So here we go...a little about me (in a manner much more familiar to me):

  1. Bioengineering: I am a 4th year Bioengineering major, and I will be graduating in the Spring of 2008.
  2. Representing E-Dub: Proud Earl Warren College student. I am a second-year Resident Advisor at Warren, and love the work I do there as much as I love the Catholic Community at UCSD.
  3. The Bay: I am originally from Mountain View, CA. I graduated from Mountain View High School in 2004. The weather up there makes me smile.
  4. The family: My mother, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins provide me with more love and support than I could possibly deserve. I would like to be just like my mother when I grow up. I have a nine-year-old sister, Raya Anne, and I only wish I could have been half as intelligent, witty, and energetic as her when I was nine.
  5. Life: I recently learned how to skateboard...we'll see how well that turns out. My residents tell me my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are enjoyable. I like whatever you like -- I wouldn't mind trying anything at least once. Any time is a good time as long as I am surrounded by friends and family. I am fond of listening -- to music, to the sounds of the ocean, to rain, to life stories, to jokes, to Fr. John Paul's, Fr. Dominic's, and Br. Jairo's homilies, to anything and everything you would like to tell me. So please -- let's talk sometime, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
  6. How will you know where to find me? I can sometimes be found burping at inopportune moments. I find that our weekly events on campus give me just the boost I need to get through my days -- so say hello when you come to visit at Under the Tree, Candlelight and Midday masses, Prayer Circle, Thursdays, and all the other opportunities and events we will have throughout the year. Or email me at amaggay@ucsd.edu if ever you need to talk with someone, have a question, or you need someone to email you back with words of encouragement and love and excessive compliments to brighten your day.

I'm looking forward to meeting you this year! Welcome to your community...I will see you soon =).
