Mark Khouzam, Student Minister, Education and Faith Development
Hi everyone! My name is Mark and I am in my fourth and last year as a Warren student, majoring in International Studies - Economics. It is my second year as a Student Minister on the Education and Faith Development Committee (EFD) and I am extremely excited about serving for another year. It is truly a blessing to be able to serve with all the amazing individuals that make the Newman Center at UCSD what it is. Ever since I stepped foot on this campus as a freshman, the Newman Center almost immediately became my home. Over these past few years and still today it has been a welcoming community in which I feel a sense of belonging and comfort. It is in the Catholic Community where my closest friendships began and were strengthened. Without the Newman Center my college experience would have been just that, College, but it was the people that I met, the activities I took part in, the committee that I led, and the ministry that I made my own, which really made my experience a great one.
As a second-year Student Minister on the EFD Committee I aim to help make your college experience all mine was and more. This year the EFD Committee decided to step away from our regularly scheduled events and truly develop the "faith development" aspect of our committee, complementing the already abundant "educational" opportunities available. It is through our weekly, Monday night Prayer Circle at the Cross Cultural Center on campus at 8:50pm that we try to create a welcoming, comfortable, and relaxed environment for individuals to come and pray in unity with the greater community. This event means a lot to me as it is what I seek out in my faith journey.
Even though you might be aware that this is a great community, what you must know is that in order for it to become your home, you must invest the time and energy to get involved, meet great people, and delve further into your Catholic faith. I also hope that you know that as a Student Minister I am here to serve you, so if you have any questions or concerns, want to get involved, or just want to introduce yourself, please contact me at markkhouzam@gmail.com. God Bless, and I hope that you all have a wonderful year!
