“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be.”
-The Beatles
Hello friends,
My full name is Ryan Anthony Mak. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California and very much pride myself of being a native of the city by the bay. I am entering my second year at UCSD with great excitement to serve as a student minister on the liturgy committee! I am a double major in human biology and religious studies with the goal of going to medical school to become a physician. But do not fear; unlike many pre-meds I am pretty laid back and try not to have many worries. I believe that life is too good to be stressed out all the time, so do some good, meet some people, and let it be. Hakuna Matata.
My path to the medical field started as an athlete when I was younger. I played football and basketball throughout my grammar school and high school days (I am still big on sports today, Go Niners!), and I developed a desire to learn about the human body, muscles, and nutrition. Next, I attended St. Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit high school in the sunset district of San Francisco, where I became deeply influenced by the Jesuit traditions, and my love for God and people grew tremendously. I love small talk and big talk, getting to hear the amazing stories each of us hold truly inspires me, and a career in which I get to do that would a dream come true.
I love God and have a great appreciation for liturgy which has grown on me so much. I remember the days where I would have to be dragged to church! I love the presence of God’s grace, the music (especially because I have such limited musical ability), and of course the people. I also love football and taking it easy at the beach. Blessings and thanks to you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it and look forward to getting to know you through our talks and involvement with the Newman Center.
