Jason Guardiano, Co-Advisor of Student Ministry

I am very thankful to be able to continue serving to and with all of you in the Newman Center and UC San Diego Community for another year. Last year was my first year in Student Ministry, co-leading the Outreach Committee with my now fellow co-advisor, Andrew Ashbacher. Together, we represented the Catholic Community to UCSD as a student organization – taking care of event budget and logistics, reaching out to the UCSD community, and responding to the call of ecumenical and interfaith relations.

I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the San Fernando Valley with my Mama & Papa and little sister. I attended and graduated from St. Catherine of Siena School in Reseda, CA and Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, CA. I became an Eagle Scout through my troop, Troop 328, Reseda in 2002. I entered UCSD as a freshman in Fall 2002.

This is where my history in the community begins. As a freshman and sophomore I was carpooled to Mass. I participated in our Tijuana House Building project for all four years as an undergraduate was also involved with Small Church Communities, Wednesday Candlelight Masses, Thursday Night Dinners, Coffee House (Talent Show) and Spring Dances.

In my college career I have been a part of many campus organizations. I was chair of Revellations, the Revelle College Newspaper, and Revelle Activities Yearbook. Going into my senior year I was relieved of these obligations but then I was called, literally, by Fr. John Paul to join Student Ministry. From the experience of these organizations I was able to apply to the logistical aspects of Student Ministry. I had a great senior year as a student minister. It was a year of personal and communal growth, sharing my gifts with UCSD and the Newman Center along with becoming fully involved in the many opportunities of our community.

In June 2006 I graduated from UCSD - Revelle College with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Study of Religion. For two years I worked as a computing consultant at UCSD Academic Computing Services Help Desk / Residential Networking.

Now, as a co-advisor for the new Student Ministers, I look forward to another year of growth for all of us.

When I’m not doing ministry (or sometimes when I am) I enjoy music, (singing) songs, a hike or two, creating publications, relieving computer problems, reading, and film.
