Our more local, or “barrio,” outreach centers around our various meal ministries, listed below. You can volunteer one meal at a time or regularly.
Rachel’s House is a Catholic Charities outreach to women. We have teams that take turns making dinner on the 1st and 3rd Fridays, leaving La Jolla at 4:30 and returning about 7:00. Both women and men are invited to help. Contact Sally Anderson.
Every fourth Tuesday, 5:00pm-7:00pm, we prepare dinner at Good Sam then serve it at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Pacific Beach to 80-100 people in need. Each member of the team brings either the entrée, salad, rolls, or dessert (reimbursement for the entrée is available). Contact Shelley Rowland.
St. Vincent de Paul
We serve Saturday lunch or dinner for those in need at St. Vincent de Paul Village downtown San Diego once/month. There is an opportunity to sit down and eat with the guests. We carpool from Good Sam around 10:30 for lunch or 3:30 for dinner and return about three hours later. Contact Rosy Vacchi.
We serve Sunday dinner the first Sunday of each month at this shelter for teens in the Hillcrest area. We prepare dinner together offsite. Occasionally, we have the opportunity to sit down to dinner with the teens. For odd months, contact Cindy Yun. For even months, Denis Forgeron.
CCSA Food Bags
Once a quarter, we help Community Christian Service Agency in Clairemont pack food bags for those in need. Contact Martha Odegaard.
