Updated (07/20/2021): content regarding Title 42 included in new action
Since March 2020, the U.S. government has used Title 42 to expel thousands of people arriving at the southern border, citing public health restrictions despite public health experts’ emphasis that the policy has no public health rationale. Additionally, the lives of Haitians and Indigenous families have been put in danger under this policy. While the Biden administration ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy earlier this year, Title 42 continues to deny the dignity of migrants and their legal right to seek asylum. For more information, check out this recent report from Jesuit Refugee Service USA and Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of International Migration.
