Student Ministry

Student Ministers are essential to Newman’s mission. They are volunteer undergraduate students who are called to be Servant Leaders. They assist Staff in welcoming and reaching out to students, they lead ministries and small faith-sharing groups, and they plan and coordinate liturgies, retreats, events, programs, and CLC communities. They create opportunities for students to experience a sense of belonging, to grow in their personal relationship with Christ, and to discern their calling in life. As servant leaders, Student Ministers grow deeper in their self-knowledge, faith, and leadership.

APPLICATIONS DUE BY SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2024 AT 11:59 P.M. PDT

Community’s Mission

The Catholic Community at UC San Diego experiences Christ’s presence in Word, Eucharist, and one another. We seek to build the reign of God by sharing our faith in Jesus Christ as well as by extending welcome, embracing diversity, and responding to others with compassion.

Desired Outcome for Students

Students will feel welcomed and accepted for who they are, diverse and loved Children of God. They will experience a community that provides them a sense of belonging and a home away from home. They will be inspired to go deeper in their faith and to build a meaningful and lasting relationship with God. They, by participating in service and immersion opportunities, will become more aware of the world around them and the needs of others. Students will become Men and Women for Others and will develop a life-long desire for social justice and service.

Student Minister’s Mission

To fulfill our Community’s Mission by being Servant Leaders that build a Catholic Community that grows in Friendship, Faith, and Service by welcoming all, embracing diversity, and serving with compassion.

Student Minister’s Focus

To Invite, Empower, and Serve.

Desired Outcome for Student Ministers

In addition to the Desired Outcomes for Students, Student Ministers will learn the skills of servant leadership and will become life-long servant leaders. They will grow in their faith and self-knowledge. They will build on their existing relationship with God and become more aware of God’s presence in their lives.
